Early Morning Exploring on My Motorcycle

Woke up wide awake at 5:30 this morning, so I decided to hop on my motorcycle and do a bit of off-road exploring here in Isan, Thailand. My goal for this morning was to find a dirt road that went around a couple of lakes that are about 10 km from my house. Here is the map of my trip.

As you can see on the map, I found one. It was a tiny little turnoff along the main road. At first, I actually thought it might be a driveway, which is always dangerous, because, in Thailand, there is a 100% chance of being attacked by dogs if you drive up a private dirt road. Anyway, it turned out to be just what I was looking for, a small dirt road that went all the way around the lake. It was beautiful!

This is a couple of kilometers off the main road. Nice dirt road…nothing but rice fields and water as far as the eyes could see.

Traveling down the road, it was rice paddies on one side and a huge lake on the other!

The lake side…

And…here’s a picture of the bike at the point where I decided to turn around. Looking at the map, you can clearly see that I had discovered a road that went all the way around the lake. When you’re out there alone, though, not sure where you are, every kilometer further into the countryside is a kilometer further into the unknown and away from help, should you have an accident or a mechanical problem!

…and of course, no early morning ride is complete without a coffee and piece of cake!!

See you next time!

Ryan
